Industrial mechanical vapour recompression MVR 

A heat pump uses energy to transfer heat from a lower temperature source to a higher temperature demand using additional energy. For industrial heat pumps, the heat source is process waste heat.

 

Mechanical vapour recompression (MVR) is an open heat pump system in which the pressure and temperature of the vapour, together with the corresponding saturation temperature, are increased by means of compression. Steam recompression is a specific variation of MVR. Low-pressure steam exhaust from industrial operations, such as evaporators or cookers, is usually vented to the atmosphere or condensed in a cooling tower, while other plant operations on the same site may require intermediate-pressure steam. Instead of expanding high pressure steam across a throttling valve to meet these needs, low-pressure waste steam can be mechanically compressed to a higher pressure so that it can be reused. Steam recompression relies upon a mechanical compressor to increase the temperature of the latent heat in steam to render it usable for process duties. The advantage lies in the fact that the required compression energy is very small compared to the amount of latent heat present in the recycled steam.

 

The energetic performance of steam recompression is expressed in the coefficient of performance (COP). The COP gives the ratio of the net recovered heat and the energy used by the compressor. In this case, the net heat is the steam production including the additional steam yield by water injection. Typical economical and energy-efficient applications have a minimum COP of 3.5. Some applications of MVR have a COP of 10 or even higher.

The key elements for a high COP are the following:

A low ratio of the absolute steam pressures. A guideline for the maximum ratio is 6, but in daily practice the ratio is about 3.

A minimum capacity. A guideline is a minimum of one tonne of steam per hour.Water injection after compression.

 

MVR Applications 

MVR energy-saving, low-temperature evaporation technology replaces simple evaporators. MVR is widely used in many applications, including:

Zero Liquid Discharge for industrial wastewater treatment

Chemical industry for evaporation, crystallization, and purification

Salt brine concentration

RO brine concentration

Beverage industry (milk, juice, sugar, etc.) concentration

 

Main features:
The MVR evaporator energy saving technology is the most advanced international technology of evaporator, only need few live steam (When start evaporator need few live steam, during normal running almost no need live steam), which greatly reduce business operating costs, reduce environmental pollution.
Due to adopt compressor supply heat source, there is little temperature difference which compared with traditional evaporator, and can achieve moderate evaporation,greatly improved product quality and reduce fouling.
No need condenser or only need small size condenser, the structure and process are quite simple, it can be full automatic operation, continuous running, safety and reliable.
This evaporator internal system equipped with CIP clean pipeline, which can achieve clean in place, easy to operate and without dead angle.
Liquid material can be evaporated under low temperature (50-100℃) in this evaporator, the liquid material is uniform and without running material, not easy coking, material heating denaturation is minimal.
Due to use of 100% recycling secondary steam latent heat, completely avoid the use of live steam, so greatly reduced steam consumption.
For heat-sensitive materials can be used with vacuum pump, which can be done in close to absolute pressure under vacuum, so as to realize low temperature evaporation, the minimum evaporation temperature can be 50 ℃.
Simple process control and automation——Because of the small amount of fluid retention, the falling film evaporator can be change according to different vacuum degree/feeding capacity/ concentration/ temperature , which is the basic conditions for stable quality of products.
The handling capacity can be up to 100T/h, with advantages such as small floor space, compact structure, stable operation and so on.
